After several family members had written long messages about their concern about the state of the world, racial relations, violence and politics.
I read in your messages a lot of fear, uncertainty, and concern. I have no answers and won’t spin facts.
I can’t move the mega-issues, but I know who I am and what I want to be. I have a basic faith in the direction of humanity. I use the word faith because it’s despite the facts and held because of who it helps me be. I will do the best I can with what I have locally, because that’s what I can control. I try to act with integrity when I can (i.e., not always), but I will not take on the culture war, it’s not my war. This will be enough, because it’s what I can do and history is coming all the same.
This is the best I can do for a response: I feel many of the concerns every day. But this is not who we are called to be. Take care with what you allow into your head. Our attention is precious. It needs pruning to what we can act on in a positive way. Say what you need when you need it so others can help. These are not even things a person does – I sure don’t. They are ideals to keep our eyes up and out of the mud.
